The new-look Glow Like This... the spot for all things Time Machine and Glow-in-the-Dark Records. Lots of music, video, and more... new, old, rare and not-so-rare... on the way!
Jaysonic’s one and only solo full-length album, HOT AIR, is now on iTunes and available digitally for the first time.
and as a fun little bonus, here’s video footage of a live performance of the album’s first track, “Senseless“, wayyyy back in the day, with appearances by Mekalek, Sage Francis, Joe Beats and Romen Rok…
Combing through old CDs and mini-discs we just uncovered this song created during the “Slow Your Roll” recording sessions that didn’t make the album. It’s called “Blind Date”, and it’s about just that – story verses about what happened on blind dates that Jaysonic and Comel each “went on” with a dame that they didn’t know. Produced by Martian Gang – the same guys who did “Thinking About You” and “Time’s Fly”. Enjoy the stream or download.
Stoe here. This was the second TM video I had the privilege of doing, a whopping 6 years after the first one. It involved four or five shooting expeditions. Our boy Garrett held down camera work for a good amount of this video. It was a blast to shoot and cut up. We gaff taped my camera to the hood of Jay’s luxurious ‘93 Infiniti J30 and took a drive around Temple and Beverly. We dunked Comel in a North Hollywood pool. We shot the beach stuff at Point Dume. An LA-ass shoot for an LA-ass video. ah, yes.
Ha, almost forgot this existed. One of Time Machine’s lesser-seen videos, “Caught On Tape” is a song from TM RADIO and the “Grime Machine” EP. The song is definitely one of TM’s more aggressive tracks.
The video was shot by a guy named Carey Williams who just approached the group on some, “hey we’re in LA, you make music, I make videos, let’s work” type shit, and this was the result. The paparazzi guy with his back to the camera is DJ Real, of the production duo Martian Gang, who made the beats for two songs from SLOW YOUR ROLL; “Time’s Fly” and “Thinkin’ Bout You”.
Time Machine’s second actual music video (after “A Million And One Things To Do” which will be posted soon) was “Night Lights”, directed by Michelle Oz. This song was produced by Jaysonic, and was the only beat he ever made that saw the light of day as an official Time Machine song. The original name he gave the beat when he saved it to disc was “Sound Horn”. The name “Night Lights” came about after no obvious title came from Jahpan’s party-rockin’ chorus, or either of the verses.
There’s plenty of funny back story to this video, but umm, maybe some things are better left unsaid. One good anecdote is that the video was shot in the now famous “TM Mansion” in the Silver Lake neighborhood of LA, just a few months after the boys moved in. On the day of the video shoot, a plumbing pipe on the property burst, leaving a house full of crew, video models and extras without a bathroom to use. As a result, a production assistant was shuttling people who needed to use the bathroom back and forth between the house and the McDonalds at the corner of Melrose Ave and Vermont Ave.
A rarely seen look at the making of Time Machine’s beloved debut album Slow Your Roll, featuring appearances by Edan (pre Dylan phase), Edo G and Special K.
Forgot how fun this shit was! Assembled by Stoerok.
This right here is really the first tape i’m pulling out of the vault–one that only friends have heard and really the last of my old style of mixtape. Since we’re going backwards chronologically you’ll see what I mean in the coming weeks, but mostly it means i remixed EVERY track on here. When I first started DJing, I (along with Jaysonic who used to make tapes with me) wanted to create a kind of library of mixtapes, so we started with Vol. 1, Vol. 2, etc… The reason this is called Vol. 0 is because the content is mostly stuff from when i first started DJing, or even before. Around this time in ‘98 I started bringing back the early 90’s music heavy, most likely a backlash from the then reigning “shiny-suit era” (which seems pretty appealing nowadays I gotta say). This is also the first tape I did on my brand new gold Vestax mixer as I said goodbye to Geminis forever. Damn line-switches. This isn’t on some “For My People”, the songs on here are some of the most well known from that era, but I re-did them…Mek style. Enjoy this one… Oh yeah, special eff-you to the chump at Guitar Center who swore up and down that Vestax never made a gold mixer. I said “But I use one every day!” yet he maintained that i was wrong. Guitar Center…pfffff….
This mix features two Time Machine tracks… “Something We’re Becoming” and “Beat It Up”. Click here for free download.

The second and last installment of my monthly WMEK tapes is my favorite of the two. After this tape, I was back on the real radio waves and that was the end of this concept. The whole idea of these tapes was to blend older, slightly slept-on songs with brand new songs. I always thought if there actually was a radio station that did that 24 hours a day, it would be the be-all, end-all of radio. My favorite, and Comel’s favorite track on here is the Del and Mr. Lif remix I did. I always wished that song had a more melodic beat, so i remixed it. My man Beatbox Josh was all about the Roots song on here–white label only–produced by DJ Spinna (!); sh*t is tough! And of course one of my favorites, “Solar Power” by Binary Star. “And Rodney King, ain’t never felt the beat like this”…Yeah, that’s what I’m talkin about.
